The email service from the biggest dot com in the world dont recognize dot! If that sounds "interesting" take a look at this

If you try to sign up as j.q.public@gmail.com, and gmail accepts that username, it means that any combination (e.g., jq.public, jq.pub.lic) will be sent to jqpublic.
If you are registered as reddog@gmail.com, it means that someone trying to register as red.dog will be turned down since that username already exists.
